City Encourages Resident Beautification Efforts
Frequently, the Community Preservation Division receives notification of potential alleged violations of the municipal code in areas such as: property maintenance, private property parking, zoning, yard sales, home occupation licensing and permits, sign codes, etc. Each notification is investigated and treated confidentially. Residents are encouraged to call the Community Preservation Hotline number at (562) 905-9694, if they would like to report a potential issue.
Some of the most common code concerns are as follows:
- Abandoned buildings

- Home occupation (performing a business without a permit)
- Improper Occupancy (living quarters in garages, sheds, trailers)
- Inoperable/abandoned vehicles on private property
- Land Use (e.g.: preparing food in residence for outside sales)
- Parking vehicles on the lawn or yard
- Property maintenance (damaged private walkways and driveways)
- Inadequate or poorly maintained landscaping
- Substandard or unsanitary living conditions (housing de
fects and hazards) - Trash cans left out past collection times and days
- Unpermitted work (additions, remodeling, roof covering, fences, etc.)
- Yard sales (three times per year allowed with permit)
Commercial Properties
· Auto repairs (repairing cars outside a structure)
· Business license (no business license)
· Hazardous materials and conditions
· Illegal storage
· Inoperative vehicles
· Inadequate or poorly maintained landscaping
· Performing business without a Certificate of Occupancy
· Outdoor sales
· Property maintenance (accumulation of rubbish, trash & debris)
· Payphones (Unpermitted, blocking pathways, etc.)
· Substandard buildings
· Excessive or unpermitted window signage
· Overflowing or unenclosed trash receptacles
· Truck vending (catering on property)
· Unpermitted work (additions, remodeling, tenant improvements, etc.)
· Vehicles for sale
